Goldtel Voice over IP Introduction
GoldTel Solutions is a market leader in the supply of telecommunications equipment and a service
provider to both South African and African markets. Our expert, well educated and experienced staff has
been involved in the industry for 27 years. Our expertise ranges from the import and supply of quality
telephony equipment, to the development of our own products unique to South Africa including IP
services that simply work.
Among our attractions in the market place, the Voice service is of the most effective and innovative. After
three years of study, trial and error, hard work, and dedication, we have created a Voice over DSL service
that is unique to the VoIP market.
Matching our Voice solution, we have customised our VoIP equipment to work optimally with all of the
South African telecommunications networks.
In designing our solution, we have paid special attention to stability and voice quality as the core factors
of our service.
At Goldtel we have successfully developed a Voice solution that addresses all the communications
challenges previously experienced in the VoIP market. We are therefore able to deliver a business
solution our customers at the best possible price.
During 2003 Telkom SA introduced the market to ADSL (asymmetric digital subscriber lines). The
advantage of this technology is that customers are able to receive affordable data connectivity on the
same copper pair as their normal telephone line.
Bandwidth became more affordable as time went by.
ICASA also embraced their role as Telecommunications Regulator and opened up the regulatory
framework so that public voice services could legally be transmitted over IP connections. They started to
regulate local bandwidth pricing, boosting interest in the VoIP market and encouraging IP to be used as a
delivery medium.
The challenge to most VoIP service providers has been the provision of good quality voice to and from
the customer. A customer making a call using one of the average VoIP service providers would very
likely experience one or more of the following problems:
Jitters (caused bad network routers, switches, and VoIP equipment)
Latency (delays, caused by the routing of traffic out on the Internet, and then back to an internet service provider, and only then to the voice service provider)
Break-up of voice (caused by insufficient bandwidth and inadequate quality of service implementation)
Bad Audio Quality (caused by the wrong compression CODEC)
One way speech (caused by bad VoIP equipment and incompatible routers)
Gateways needing rebooting (caused by changing public IP addresses and hardware not being able to compensate for these changes that occur a minimum every 24 hours)
We have addressed these challenges in a unique way by providing our customers with a service superior
to most other providers. Our platform positioning in the national IP backbone enables us to route our
traffic straight to our service without utilising the Internet for transport.
We offer expedited the forwarding of our voice traffic by giving it priority over all other types of traffic,
and in addition, we offer free Voice DSL connectivity to our customers.
Our service includes:
Customized VoIP gateways, IP Phones, and Softphones that work in the South African environment
